Pass/Fail grades
Answered

Hello!

Last year, I struggled because of distance learning, and my GPA took a hard hit. However, I am a California resident, so the pass/fail option was optional, and I did end up opting in. How will this impact me when I end up applying? I know this is a kind of a grey area at the moment, but if there is anyone who has any information, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hello!

Like you said, this is a grey area. However, the pass/fail grading system does make it difficult for admissions officers to differentiate your academic ability from other applicants. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to explain why you chose to opt in for pass/fail while also expressing how you learned and grew from this situation - while also highlighting your other abilities (both in the classroom and outside the classroom). This can be done anywhere in your application - but I highly recommend that you include this!
