Difference Between CLEP and DSST Exams

Ok, so I'm a bit confused about CLEP and DSST exams. Can someone explain the differences between the two? Pros and cons? And maybe which subjects are available for each exam type? Trying to figure out which one might be better for me to take.

Hi there! I'm happy to clarify the differences between CLEP (College Level Examination Program) and DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests). Both exams offer a way to earn college credit without taking a college course, but they do have some distinct characteristics.

CLEP exams are offered by the College Board and cover introductory-level college course material in subjects like mathematics, English, business, science, and foreign languages. There are 34 CLEP exams available, and they are widely accepted by colleges and universities in the United States.

DSST exams, on the other hand, were originally designed for military members but are now also available to civilians. They provide a broader range of subjects, with over 30 exams including technical subjects, business, social sciences, humanities, and physical science. Although DSST exams are accepted by a number of institutions, they are not as broadly recognized as CLEP exams.

The main 'pro' for both is the potential cost savings and the ability to accelerate your degree completion. The best one for you may depend on where you plan to apply the credits and which subjects you're most prepared to test in. It's recommended to check with your target institutions to see which exams they accept.
