Is there financial aid available for military children?

Hi, my dad served in the military and I've heard that there might be some college benefits available to me because of this. Does anyone know anything about this? How do I find out more? Any info would be appreciated!

Yes, there are a variety of financial aid opportunities available specifically for children of military veterans. Here are a few key ones:

1. Post-9/11 GI Bill: This federal program provides up to 36 months of education benefits, which may be transferred to dependents under certain conditions. The benefits can be used for undergraduate and graduate degrees, vocational/technical training, on-the-job training, flight training, correspondence training, licensing and national testing programs, entrepreneurship training, and certain entrance examinations. Benefits may cover tuition, housing, books, and other fees.

2. Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) Program: DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

3. State-specific scholarships for military children: Some states run their own programs to show appreciation for military service. For example, California offers the CalVet College Fee Waiver, which waives tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus for dependents of veterans.

4. Scholarships from non-profit organizations: Organizations like the American Legion, AMVETS, and Military Children Program offer scholarships specifically for military dependents.

To get started, I recommend reaching out to your father's military branch's education office, or your high school counselor. They may have more specific resources and be able to guide you through the process. It's wise to plan ahead and understand the requirements and deadlines for each aid option.
