Is taking Mythology as an elective in high school worth it?

Hello! Junior year electives are calling my name and I’m super into Greek and Roman myths. There's a Mythology class offered at my school, but I'm not sure if it would be seen as 'rigorous' by colleges. Do you all think it’s a good idea to take this class if I’m aiming for a top-tier school or should I pick something more traditional like economics or another science instead?

Absolutely, taking a Mythology class can be a fantastic addition to your academic profile, especially if this subject aligns with your interests and you can draw a clear connection to your overall academic or extracurricular narrative.

Top-tier schools value students who pursue their passions and intellectual curiosities. Mythology could provide a unique talking point in your application or essays, where you could reflect on what you've learned or how it has shaped your perspective. That said, balance is crucial. If you've already enrolled in a number of rigorous core classes, Mythology can be a wonderful complement. However, if you're lacking in the traditionally rigorous subjects, consider mixing in another advanced placement or honors course to maintain a robust academic schedule.

Remember, the key is to challenge yourself while also exploring subjects that genuinely interest you. For example, if you're into English or History, Mythology could add depth to those areas; if you're a STEM-focused student, it could demonstrate a well-rounded interest in the humanities.
