Where does economics fall under Common App subject categories?

On the Common App, I'm not sure whether to list economics as a math or social science subject. Does anyone know where it's typically categorized?

In the context of the Common Application, economics is most commonly categorized as a social science. While it often incorporates quantitative methods and can be analytical like mathematics, it is traditionally considered a branch of the social sciences because it deals with the behavior and interactions of people and societies. When you are listing your courses or interests in economics on your application, you should select 'Social Sciences' as the category. However, if you're applying for something that is specifically quantitatively focused, such as a specialized program in quantitative economics or econometrics, you might emphasize the mathematical aspects of your economics coursework.

In any case, it's fine to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of economics, especially if you can reflect this in your course descriptions or supplementary materials, but for the categorical selection on the Common App, 'Social Sciences' is the standard choice.
