Good colleges for Music Education major in the Mid-Atlantic region?

I've been playing the violin for years and aspire to educate others in music. Can anyone recommend some solid institutions with strong Music Education programs, preferably in the Mid-Atlantic region? Would really appreciate any insights.

Absolutely, there are several colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region known for their Music Education programs.

Firstly, I'd recommend Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute in Maryland. It's one of the major music conservatories in the United States and it offers both an undergraduate and a graduate program in Music Education. You'll receive extensive musical and pedagogical training there, giving you the skills to teach effectively.

Another is Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia. This one has a comprehensive Music Education program and the opportunity to gain classroom experience early on in your studies.

Rutgers University in New Jersey also has a strong Music Education program that includes pedagogical training and hands-on student teaching experience.

In New York State, Ithaca College's School of Music is hailed for its dedication to student-centered learning. The Music Education program offers a wide variety of ensembles, performance opportunities, and practicum experiences (including an on-campus music lab school).

Lastly, the University of Maryland's School of Music offers a Music Education program where you'll get to participate in numerous performing ensembles and gain real-world teaching experiences.

These colleges are known for their strong support for students and their comprehensive approach in combining theory, pedagogy, and practice. Remember though, when choosing a college, consider not just the standing of the program, but also the overall environment, student support, and financial aspect. Best of luck with your college search!
