Best Community College for International Students in California?

Hi all. I'm an international student looking at attending a Community College in California when I finish high school. What community college would you suggest is the best for international students and why?

There are many remarkable community colleges in California that would be great for an international student like yourself! Each of them offers unique opportunities, so it rather depends on what you're looking for in a college experience.

Santa Monica College (SMC) in Santa Monica might be worth investigating. It holds a strong reputation for its transfer rates to prestigious 4-year universities, including those within the UC system. The college hosts a sizable international student population thus offering a strong support structure, such as dedicated advisors and special orientation programs. Plus, bonus, you have the beach right there!

De Anza College (located in Cupertino) is another option. It has a strong reputation for business, computer science, and arts programs. It's also situated in the heart of Silicon Valley, providing unique opportunities for internships and networking in tech industries. Like SMC, De Anza also has a robust community of international students, which can provide a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Orange Coast College (OCC), situated in Costa Mesa, might also be worth considering. OCC is well-known for its vocational programs like Culinary Arts and Marine Science. It also has a strong record of transferring students to 4-year institutes and offers generous support to its international student community.

El Camino College, located in Torrance, is known for its supportive environment and diverse student body. Its Honors Transfer Program gives students the opportunity to take advanced-level general education courses and priority transfer to select universities.

Finally, Foothill College fits the bill with a sprawling campus in Los Altos Hills and a panorama of academic program offerings. Its notable programs include computer science, graphic design, and biomedical engineering. It also has a Global Scholars program specially designed for international students looking for a more enriched academic pathway.

Keep in mind that the "best" community college for you will depend on what you're hoping to study, where you're hoping to transfer, where you would like to live, and what kind of support you want. Check out the schools' websites, look at their programs, resources for international students, connections with 4-year universities, and even write or call the admissions office for more specific answers.
