Calling All Creative Tech Lovers: Best Major?

I'm all about art and technology. As I look ahead to college, I'm trying to figure out what to major in. I really want a degree that allows me to be both creative and tech-savvy. Any recommendations?

Given your interests in both art and technology, a degree in Digital Media, also sometimes known as Interactive Media or New Media, could be a great fit for you. This field converges elements of design, storytelling, and technology. Students often learn about graphic design, animation, video production, app development, and coding, among other areas.

Another viable degree option is Computer Graphics. Courses usually explore topics such as 2D and 3D modeling, animation, game design, and special effects. This is particularly compelling if you're interested in the visual aspects of technology and want to develop your technical skills along with your artistic sensibilities.

If your interests lean more towards web or software development but you still want to incorporate your love for art, a degree in Web Design or User Experience (UX) Design could be ideal. These programs are perfect for students who want to learn about aesthetics, functionality, user interface (UI) design, and coding.

Each of these majors will allow you to get an artistic and technological education – the best part is, they're all flexible, meaning you could end up in a variety of different creative tech roles upon graduation. However, be sure to look closely at the curriculum at each school as these majors can vary significantly. Some will be more arts-focused, and others will be more tech-focused, so it’s essential to find the right balance to match your interests and career goals.
