History Major in Kansas

Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior and a history fanatic. I'm considering sticking close to home in Kansas for college, so does anyone have knowledge about the top colleges in my state for history majors?

Certainly! There are a few solid choices for pursuing a History major within Kansas.

University of Kansas (KU) in Lawrence would likely be near the top of your list. KU has a strong History department that offers a broad curriculum, allowing you to choose from a variety of areas of concentration. You'll have the chance to explore period, geographical, thematic, and interdisciplinary concentrations. The department emphasizes meticulous research and clear writing, skills which are valuable in numerous fields and professions beyond history.

Kansas State University also has a strong History department that encourages diversity in study. In addition to American and European history, they offer courses in the histories of Africa, East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The student-driven History Club and Phi Alpha Theta honor society offer lots of activities and resources for history majors.

Lastly, we have Wichita State University. While it's smaller than the two previously mentioned, WSU offers another good option for History study in the state. Focusing on a range of world history and an approach that blends both traditional and current methodologies, their program offers opportunities for internships as well.

In the end, where you should apply depends on what you are looking for in a university experience apart from academics. Consider factors such as location, type of campus life, size of the institution, opportunities for research or internships, and affordability when making your choice. And remember, the "best" university for you is the one that fits you well, academically and personally.
