Best Computers by Major in College

I know this may vary greatly depending on the person, but does anyone have any suggestions on the best computers for college broken down by major? I’m really looking to get the right laptop to match my academic needs.

Certainly! You're absolutely correct that the best laptop for you would largely depend on your major and what you'll be using the computer for. Here are some general recommendations for several popular majors:

1. Arts & Graphic Design: Students in these programs often use highly-graphically intensive software. A Macbook Pro would be a good choice; Apple products typically have excellent graphics capabilities and are preferred by many in the design field.

2. Engineering/Computer Science: Work in these areas can be quite demanding in terms of processing power, especially if you're coding or using specialized software. You'd probably want a machine with high specs. Consider the Dell XPS 15 or Lenovo ThinkPad T series.

3. Business: If lots of travel and presentations are in your future, a laptop that's light and durable would be ideal. The Microsoft Surface Pro or Dell XPS 13 could be good choices.

4. Humanities/Social Sciences: For these majors, you're potentially looking at a lot of reading, writing, and research. The most important thing here would likely be a comfortable keyboard and a good screen for long reading sessions. A MacBook Air could be a good choice due to its weight, or a laptop like HP Spectre x360 for a balance of performance and price.

5. Sciences: If you're a science major doing a lot of data-heavy work, you might want a good mix of processing power and durability. In this case, consider something like the Acer Predator Helios 300.

Remember, every individual will have their own preferences when it comes to laptops, and no one machine is the best fit for everyone. It's always a good idea to test out a computer in person before buying, if possible. Also, check if your college or program has any specific recommendations or requirements for laptops.
