Reliable Laptops for Computer Science Majors?

I'm going to be a CS major starting next fall and I'm in the hunt for a reliable laptop that'll see me through all those coding assignments and projects. Anyone else in this field have any firsthand recommendations? What specs should I be particularly mindful of?

As a CS major, you'll need a computer that can handle heavy-duty programming, so power and speed should definitely be considerations. Look for a laptop with a strong processor (Intel i5 or i7, or AMD Ryzen 5 or 7), and ideally 8GB or more of RAM to ensure your machine can efficiently run the different applications and programs that you're likely to use.

Storage is another key factor to consider. A Solid-State Drive (SSD) is faster and more reliable than a traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD), so consider a laptop with an SSD or hybrid storage system. 256GB of storage should be the minimum, but if you can afford more, it might be worthwhile.

Battery life would be another consideration. As a CS student, you might spend long hours coding away from an outlet, so a laptop that can last a full day would be beneficial.

Some popular choices among computer science majors are the Dell XPS 15 due to its excellent performance, or the MacBook Pro, known for its strong build quality and smooth operating system which is loved by many developers. If you want a 2-in-1 laptop, Lenovo Yoga series could serve you well. Anyway, the best choice would depend on whether you have a preference for Windows or Mac, your budget, and personal design preferences.
