What's the best college major for becoming a stock broker?

I'm really interested in the stock market and trading stocks. I'm considering becoming a stock broker after college, so I wanted to know what major you guys think would best equip me for that career path. Finance, Economics or something else entirely?

For aspiring stock brokers, the most beneficial majors typically revolve around business and economics.

Finance is indeed a strong choice as it provides a substantial foundation in areas directly applicable to stock brokering such as financial institutions, investments, and corporate finance. In a finance program, you'll gain comprehensive knowledge about capital budgeting, risk management, and how the financial markets work, preparing you for a solid grounding in stock brokering.

Economics is another good option for aspiring stock brokers. This subject can provide insights into economic trends and principles, which are crucial in understanding the influence of socio-economic factors on investment decisions.

Another major worth considering is Business Administration. It can provide a more generalized knowledge base around business practices and may also offer opportunities to concentrate or minor in fields like finance or economics, thereby combing broad business acumen with specialized financial knowledge.

That said, remember it's not solely about the major you choose, but what you make out of it. Internships, networking opportunities, extracurricular activities, and student associations related to finance and trade would prove equally important in building the skills needed to succeed in being a stockbroker.

Finally, keep in mind, regardless of your major, most stock brokers need to pass the Series 7 and Series 63 exams to receive their licenses. So, your coursework and experiences in college should ideally prepare you for these licensure exams as well.
