Which universities have a similar focus on hands-on learning and outdoor activities to that of UVM?

I've been researching the University of Vermont and am really attracted to their hands-on learning philosophy and the outdoor activities due to their location. I'm a bit worried about winters though, so what are some other schools offering similar experiential learning and nature opportunities but maybe in a different climate?

Hey there! It's wonderful to hear you're interested in hands-on learning and outdoor activities; these are great ways to enhance your college experience. Schools such as Colorado College with its Block Plan enable students to dive deeply into a singular subject and often incorporate the great outdoors right in the heart of the Rockies.

Another one you might consider is the University of California, Santa Cruz, which offers a beautiful coastal setting with a focus on experiential learning. Out east, Warren Wilson College in North Carolina provides a unique work-learning-service program and ample outdoor activities in the Appalachian Mountains, with milder winters compared to Vermont. Lastly, don't forget about Prescott College in Arizona, which is known for its emphasis on environmental education and adventure education.

Each place has a unique approach to learning and outdoor engagement, so be sure to visit if you can and talk with current students about their experiences!
