LVN to RN Military Program at MiraCosta College?

I currently serve in the military and heard about MiraCosta College's LVN to RN program. Can anyone let me know of the process, success rate, and what I might expect from this program?

It's wonderful that you're considering advancing your nursing career through the LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) to RN (Registered Nurse) program at MiraCosta College, particularly as someone who is serving in the military. The transition program is designed specifically for LVNs who want to take the next step and become RNs.

That being said, the entire process can be a bit lengthy. To start, one must complete all prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 2.5. These courses typically include Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology.

Once prerequisites are completed, you would apply to the program. The application typically involves transcripts, a personal statement, and sometimes letters of recommendation. If selected, you would then participate in the steps necessary to complete the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills).

It's been reported that the LVN to RN program at MiraCosta College has a relatively good success rate. Per data from the California Board of Registered Nursing, the NCLEX-RN pass rates over the past few years are quite high (well within the 80-90% range), which speaks to the quality of the program.

In terms of what to expect, the LVN to RN program at MiraCosta College is designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to work in a variety of healthcare settings. The courses are comprehensive and structured to balance both theory and practical experience including simulations and clinical rotations in a variety of healthcare settings (e.g., hospitals, clinics).

Given your dual roles as military personnel and a student, you might find the workload challenging, but many have found the experience rewarding. There will likely be a lot of studying, but there should also be resources available to aid in your success. MiraCosta College also has resources specifically for veterans to support your transition into the academic environment.

However, keep in mind that the scenarios described are typical experiences. Your own experience may vary depending on multiple factors including your learning habits, work schedule, and personal responsibilities. I hope this gives you a better picture of what to expect from the program. It would be a fantastic way to advance your career in nursing. Good luck with your decision-making process!
