Which colleges are the most selective in the US?

Hey everyone, so I'm trying to narrow down my college list and I want to apply to some really competitive schools. Can anyone tell me which colleges are infamous for their selectivity in the US? I'm particularly interested in areas like STEM and liberal arts if that helps.

Sure, I'd be happy to share some information on that. In terms of high selectivity, certain Ivy League schools (which are also strong in STEM and Liberal Arts) notoriously top the charts. This includes:

1. Harvard University: It has extremely competitive admissions with an acceptance rate of below 5%. The university is renowned for its excellent liberal arts education as well as top-tier STEM programs.

2. Stanford University: Stanford is another highly selective university with an acceptance rate of below 5%. It's particularly esteemed for its engineering and computer science programs.

3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): MIT is technically not an Ivy League, but it's equally selective, with a similar acceptance rate. As you can probably guess, it's world-renowned for its STEM programs.

4. Columbia University: Columbia is also particularly selective, with an acceptance rate under 6%. This university is famous for both its liberal arts and its engineering programs.

5. University of Chicago: While not an Ivy League school, UChicago is known for its rigorous liberal arts programs and its acceptance rate is also below 7%.

In addition to these, Princeton University, Brown University, and Duke University are also highly selective with strong programs across STEM and liberal arts fields.

Keep in mind that admissions at these schools are extremely competitive, so it's important to also apply to less selective "target" schools where your chances might be higher, as well as a few "safety" schools where your chances of admission are strong. Just make sure that all the schools you apply to align with your academic interests, goals, and fit preferences. Good luck!
