Colleges with less emphasis on general education?

Is there any college that places less emphasis on completing general ed requirements? I've been looking into programs that allow me to dive into my major as early as possible.

Some colleges do offer structures that allow for a great deal of autonomy and allow you to focus more on your major early on, often with minimal or flexible general education requirements. Here are some examples:

- Brown University is known for its open curriculum, where there are virtually no compulsory general ed courses. Instead, you are given freedom to explore academic interests extensively and dedicate yourself to your major early on.

- University of Rochester’s Rochester Curriculum follows a similar model to Brown, where there are no mandatory general education courses. Students are required to study in three areas of academic interest: the major area, and two 'clusters' which each consist of 3 related courses. The clusters can be in the same division (humanities, natural sciences, or social sciences) as your major, or in different divisions if your major spans more than one.

- Amherst College’s Open Curriculum allows students to take the courses they want across different academic divisions and to construct an individualized course of study. However, Amherst prompts students to engage with different methodologies and ways of knowing by requiring them to complete 32 courses in three different categories: 1) courses in several different divisions of the faculty, 2) courses that fulfill Global, Quantitative, and Writing skills, and 3) a major.

Remember to ensure that the college is a good fit overall, not just in respect to its course structure, before deciding. It's also worth keeping in mind that general education requirements, even if they may initially appear tangential to your main interest, can provide you with a broader perspective and skill set, both of which can be invaluable in many fields after graduation.
