Is there any advantage to doing college before military?

So I've always planned on both college and military service, I'm just not sure which to do first. Are there any benefits to going to college before enlisting that I should know about? Thanks!

Absolutely, pursuing college before entering the military does indeed have its advantages. First and foremost, earning a bachelor's degree could provide the opportunity to enter the military as an officer, rather than an enlisted service member. Officers have increased responsibilities, but they also generally earn a higher salary and have more opportunities for advancement within the military.

Additionally, if you've already graduated from college when you join the military, your service doesn't need to interrupt your education. Without that interruption, you may find it easier to transition to civilian life once you've completed your service because your higher education is already complete.

One more thing to consider: if you join the military after college, you may be eligible for a military service loan repayment program, which could cover part of your student loan debt. Military service also provides benefits like the GI Bill, which can be used for further education (like a master’s or doctoral program) after your service. This can be a significant financial benefit for those looking to further their education.

However, it's crucial to keep in mind that everyone's path is different, and the best choice depends on personal circumstances and career goals. Weighing the pros and cons and discussing your options with a trusted counselor or mentor can definitely help you make the best decision.
