Pomona Students/Alumni: Any Downsides?

Hi, hope you're doing great! I'm considering applying to Pomona College and I've heard a lot of good things. But I've been wondering, is there something you don't like about the college? What's your least favorite thing about Pomona?

From what I've heard about Pomona College, it generally has a very positive reputation, especially due to its small class sizes, dedicated professors, and vibrant community life. However, as with any college, Pomona is not without its potential downsides, and these vary depending on individual preferences.

Some students have mentioned the heavy workload and competitive academic atmosphere. The liberal arts education at Pomona is designed to be rigorous and challenging, and students often find themselves juggling multiple projects and assignments. Although this encourages a deep understanding of the topics, it can also lead to stress and burnout if not managed carefully.

Another factor to consider is the location. Claremont is a small city and a suburban environment, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. The school does take advantage of its Southern California location with many outdoor activities and trips to LA, but the immediate surroundings are not as bustling or diverse as a larger city.

Lastly, despite efforts to increase diversity, some students have expressed that they felt a lack of diversity in terms of socioeconomic background. While the school is committed to enhancing diversity, it's a work in progress and depending on your own background, this might influence your experience.

It's important to keep in mind that even the best institutions have areas that could use improvement, and different people will have different views on these issues. The best way to determine if Pomona will be a good fit for you is to visit, if possible, interact with current students, and do thorough research. Good luck with your college search!
