Hey, I'm a junior with a deep passion for politics. I want to go to a college that has history of grooming successful politicians. Which colleges have produced the most U.S. Presidents?
Harvard University has produced the most U.S. presidents with eight alumni serving in this capacity: John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, John F. Kennedy, George W. Bush (Harvard Business School), Barack Obama (Harvard Law School). William Howard Taft received a degree from their law school similar to Barack Obama while Franklin D. Roosevelt attended Harvard College.
Next is Yale University with five U.S. presidents who were alumni including both George H.W. and George W. Bush, William Howard Taft, Gerald Ford (Law School) and Bill Clinton (Law School).
The College of William & Mary comes in third having produced three U.S. presidents: Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and John Tyler.
Princeton University and the University of Virginia have both produced two U.S. presidents – James Madison and Woodrow Wilson went to Princeton and Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson (as an undergraduate) attended the University of Virginia.
Keep in mind, while the above schools have been alma maters to future presidents, this doesn't necessarily mean they offer better political science programs or opportunities. It may serve you well to look at colleges offering strong political science programs, opportunities for political involvement, internships, debate clubs, and courses in public policy, all of which might help fuel your passion for politics.
