Scholarship Opportunities for College Students in the Military?

Hi everyone! I'm currently serving in the military while also attending school full time. The financial burden has been tough to manage, so I'm looking for scholarships that cater to students like me. Are there any well-known scholarships or resources I should be checking out? Thanks so much!

Hello! Firstly, thanks for your service. It's definitely understandable that juggling your duties and college expenses can be tough. You're in a great position though, as there are a number of financial aid opportunities designed specifically for service members and veterans.

One major program to consider would be the Post-9/11 GI Bill. If you've been on active duty for at least 90 days since Sept. 10, 2001, you could be eligible for this program. The bill can cover the full cost of in-state tuition and fees at public colleges for up to 36 months, or a national maximum per academic year for private or foreign schools.

There's also the Montgomery GI Bill for those who are currently serving. It requires a minimum service obligation and the benefits can change based on which branch of the military you're in.

In addition, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships can be an option. ROTC scholarships can cover up to full tuition, a separate allowance for books, and a monthly stipend for living expenses.

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) offers scholarships, grants, interest-free loans, and educational assistance for children of military personnel.

Also, look into the Veterans United Foundation Scholarship program which is aimed at service members and their families, including spouses and children.

Finally, don’t forget to check out the financial aid office at your school. They may know about school-specific scholarships for military students.

Remember, each of these programs will have their own eligibility requirements. So, it's important to read all fine print to ensure you meet the qualifications. Best of luck in your search!
