College options for retired military personnel

This might be a unusual question but my dad's in the army and he's thinking of retiring and going back to college. Anyone know what options are available for retired military personnel?

There indeed are plentiful educational opportunities and benefits for retired military personnel. Many colleges are especially committed to helping veterans and service members transition to civilian life and prioritize their applications.

One key resource your dad should look into is the Post-9/11 GI Bill which provides up to 36 months of educational benefits. This can be used for undergraduate and graduate degrees at colleges or universities, among other training programs.

Moreover, some states have their own education benefits for veterans, typically offered to residents who served in the military and were either raised or currently live in that state.

There is also a program called the Yellow Ribbon Program that can cover a significant portion of the tuition expenses that the GI Bill doesn't cover. Certain colleges are participants in this program and agree to make additional funds available without an additional charge to your GI Bill entitlement

On the academic side, many universities and colleges have veteran service offices that provide resources specifically tailored to the needs of student veterans. They help students transition to civilian and academic life, offer mental health resources, help with scheduling classes, and provide a space for veterans to connect with each other.

Lastly, networking can be a powerful tool. There are plenty of organizations and groups specifically designed for veteran students to support each other, such as the Student Veterans of America (SVA). They offer a network, resources, and even scholarships.

So to sum up, don't worry about the options being limited. There are quite a few resources available for retired military personnel seeking a college education! Good luck to your dad with his college journey.
