What’s the deal with Chemistry CLEP exams for college credit?

Has anyone taken the Chemistry CLEP exam? I'm exploring ways to earn college credit before actually getting to college to save some time and money. How did you prepare for it, and do you think it was worth it in terms of difficulty and the credit received?

My own son just went through this process a little while back. He were juggling a lot – school, sports, you name it – but decided to take the Chemistry CLEP exam during the summer before senior year. We found a decent prep book and dedicated a couple of months to study. I must say, it was quite the commitment, but absolutely worth it. He managed to score well, and it translated into credit at his university, shaving off an entire class from his schedule.

For preparation, we found that using a combination of a good review book and online resources worked best. There were plenty of practice questions and exams that closely mirrored the actual CLEP test format. From my son's experience, it’s crucial to understand the concepts deeply and not just memorize facts, as the exam tests application of knowledge a good deal.

In terms of difficulty, it's definitely challenging, especially with balancing other responsibilities. However, if you've got a strong background in Chemistry or are willing to put in the study time, it's a solid way to earn credit. Just make sure the colleges you're interested in accept CLEP credits for Chemistry. We checked in advance, and it paid off. A heads up though, some colleges have limits on the number of CLEP credits they accept, so keep that in mind!
