HBCU SAT requirements?

Hey guys, I'm in the process of prepping for the SAT and I was wondering what SAT scores HBCUs typically expect? Is there a range or average that could boost my chances of getting in, and how strict are these requirements?

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have a range of SAT score requirements, much like other institutions. While each HBCU sets its own standards, many have slightly lower average SAT scores compared to some PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions), but this doesn't take away from their rigorous academic environments—rather, HBCUs are typically more conscious of the fact that some students come from backgrounds that make prepping for a test like the SAT difficult.

For a competitive edge, aim to score above the middle 50% range of scores submitted by accepted students, which you can find on the school's admissions page or a college information database. For example, Howard University, one of the more selective HBCUs, reported an average SAT score range of about 1140-1280 for admitted students in recent years.

In terms of boosting your chances of acceptance, you'll want to shoot for the upper end of the middle 50% range, or even above it, as that will help show you are more academically prepared for college than the average applicant.

Also keep in mind that some HBCUs may have test-optional admissions policies, which give you the flexibility to decide whether or not to submit your SAT scores depending on how well you feel they reflect your potential as a college student.
