I'm doing my college search and came across Fort Valley State University. Can any student or alumnus provide insight on what student life is like at FVSU, and what makes it a competitive choice among HBCUs?
What first stands out about FVSU to many students is the institution's strong sense of community and commitment to student support, which is something that is often highlighted about the HBCU experience in general. HBCUs like FVSU are also known for smaller class sizes, which can contribute to more personalized attention from faculty, which is an appealing aspect for many students.
In terms of features that are more specific to FVSU, the school has a notable Cooperative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP) that’s rare and provides fantastic opportunities to students interested in STEM, including internships and scholarships.
Also, student life at FVSU is vibrant with Greek life, various clubs, and a rich array of cultural events that celebrate the legacy and future of African American culture. If you have a chance, I'd recommend connecting with current students or alumni through social media platforms or through the university's admissions office to get more personal accounts of life at FVSU.
Or, if visiting campus yourself is feasible, that's often the best way of all to get a feel for what the school is all about! Best of luck with your college search!
