Getting to Vassar College

Hey, I'm currently researching my college options and I'm particularly interested in Vassar College. However, I'm a little unsure about the commute. Can anyone share how most students typically get to Vassar College? Do students rely more on their private vehicles or is public transportation a viable option?

Vassar College is located in Poughkeepsie, New York, about 90 miles north of New York City, which offers several options for students to commute to the campus.

Many students fly into one of three nearby airports: Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, or John F. Kennedy International Airport. From there, they use a combination of shuttle services, trains, or buses to reach the campus. The Metro-North Railroad's Hudson Line provides service between Grand Central Terminal in New York City and Poughkeepsie, the travel time being around two hours.

The campus is also accessible by Amtrak, which stops in Poughkeepsie, and provides convenient access to Upstate New York, the rest of New England, and points south.

Once on campus, most students tend not to have vehicles as the campus is easily navigable on foot or by bike. Most amenities are within walking distance, and the local area is served by a good community bus system, operated by Dutchess County, for off-campus excursions. This system, along with the school's convenient location, makes Vassar a relatively easy campus to travel to and from, even without a car.

Students who live relatively close by in New York or surrounding states often drive to campus. There's parking available on campus specifically for students which is a plus point if you choose to use your own private vehicle.

No matter the method chosen, the journey to Vassar provides some beautiful views of the Hudson River Valley which makes the commute enjoyable for most students.
