How's the diversity on HBCU campuses? Can white students fit in well?

I'm really passionate about the civil rights movement and Black culture, and I've been considering HBCUs for college. I'm white though, and a bit concerned about how I'd fit in. Has any white student here attended an HBCU, and what was your experience like? Did you feel welcome and part of the community? Just wanna make sure I'll be able to fully immerse myself and contribute positively!

HBCUs were established at a time when higher education was not accessible to African Americans, so there's a strong culture of overcoming adversity and fostering empowerment. While the majority of students are typically African American, HBCUs take pride in creating an environment that educates students of all backgrounds who are interested in the experience and values the institutions represent.

From joining various clubs and organizations to attending cultural events on-campus, there's a shared understanding and respect for the history and mission of the school that binds the student body. Everyone is there to learn, grow, and contribute to the community, regardless of their race. It might take some time to adjust, as with any new environment, but I encourage you to reach out to the schools directly to discuss your concerns. They often can put you in touch with current students or alumni who can share their experiences. Follow your passion for civil rights and Black culture; education at an HBCU could be a rich and rewarding experience for you.
