Which high school classes are the most valuable for a career in business?

As someone who's interested in pursuing a business major, I'm unsure of which high school classes would be the most beneficial. Are there any specific classes you'd suggest I take to prepare for a business pathway in college?

While any general high school curriculum can prepare you for a major in business, there are a few subjects that you can focus on to get a head-start in your business studies.

Firstly, it's important to be comfortable with math. Business majors often require classes in calculus and statistics, so taking those in high school can give you a strong foundation. AP Statistics, in particular, can be very beneficial, considering the increasing importance of data analysis in business decision-making.

Secondly, consider taking economics. Understanding the basic principles of economics can give you a solid background for courses like microeconomics and macroeconomics that you'll likely encounter in a business program. If your school offers it, taking AP Economics will be particularly useful.

Business also involves a lot of communication, so classes that enhance your writing and public speaking skills will be highly useful. These can include English language and literature courses, speech and debate, or even drama for public speaking and presentation skills.

Lastly, if your high school offers it, take a business-related course! Any classes related to entrepreneurship, marketing, or accounting can give you a peek into what a business major might be like.

Remember, the most important part isn't just the class title, but also understanding and absorbing the concepts within these subjects, as they'll provide a strong foundation for your business coursework in college.
