Then you have Fisk University, also in Nashville, renowned for its rigorous liberal arts education and history of social justice.
Another notable institution is Meharry Medical College, which is one of the nation's oldest and largest historically black academic health science centers. If you're into arts, LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis has a notable program, especially within the context of their historically rich community. American Baptist College has a strong liberal arts emphasis, if that interests you.
