How do HBCU athletics programs compare?

I'm in my junior year and looking to apply to colleges with strong athletic programs. I've heard HBCUs have a great community spirit but I’m curious, which HBCUs are recognized for their strong athletics departments, both in terms of facilities and team performance?

Hey there! I can totally relate to your interest in strong athletic programs. My son was in a similar boat a couple of years ago and we did quite a bit of research. From what we found, it's true that HBCUs are known for their vibrant community and spirit. Schools like Grambling State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Florida A&M University are often celebrated for their athletics.

These schools have competitive football and basketball teams that foster a deep sense of pride among students and alumni. In terms of facilities, it really can vary by institution, but many HBCUs have been investing in improvements and expansions. My advice would be to look at the individual sports that interest you and see how those teams have performed historically. Don't hesitate to reach out to the coaches to get a feel for what the program is really like. Nothing beats hearing about it straight from the source! Good luck with your search!
