Looking for HBCUs near Philadelphia – anyone else from Philly with insights?

Hey team, I'm a junior from Philadelphia exploring my options for college, and I'm drawn to the cultural and educational impact of HBCUs. Could anyone familiar with the Philly area point me toward nearby HBCUs and possibly share what makes these institutions stand out to them?

Hello there! It's wonderful that you're interested in historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Lincoln University is one option that's pretty close, located in Oxford, PA, less than an hour from Philly. My nephew went there and had such a nurturing and supportive experience; he always talks about the strong sense of community and heritage, which helped him grow not just academically, but personally too. Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is another one, which is the nation's oldest HBCU - so much history there! It's only about 25 miles from Philadelphia.

Both schools offer a range of programs and have a focus on not only academic excellence but also on empowering the African American community. I'd recommend visiting their campuses if you can; it's a great way to get a sense for the atmosphere and talk to current students!
