Are HBCUs well-regarded for their tech programs?

I'm starting to look into colleges for a tech-related major, and I'd really like to support an HBCU, but I'm not sure if that's the best path for a tech career. Does anyone here know if HBCUs have strong tech programs, and how do they compare with well-known tech schools when it comes to getting jobs in the industry or internships?

Absolutely, there are HBCUs with strong tech programs that are well-regarded within their fields. Schools like Howard University, Hampton University, and North Carolina A&T State University are known for producing competitive graduates. For example, North Carolina A&T is recognized for its engineering programs and has been noted for graduating a significant number of Black engineers into the workforce. These schools have good relationships with tech companies which can facilitate internships and job placements.

One way to assess the strength of their programs is to look at outcomes data such as job placement rates, average starting salaries, and types of companies that recruit from these schools. Additionally, check if the school has any specific partnerships or pipelines with tech companies, which can provide a clear pathway into a tech career.

When it comes to comparing HBCU tech programs to PWI (Predominantly White Institutions) programs, I would say that HBCUs offer a unique cultural and educational experience which, combined with a solid education in tech, can make you a well-rounded and culturally astute candidate in the job market.
