SAT vs ACT – Which exam might be better suited for someone strong in science and math?

Hey friends! I've heard that the ACT has a science section and that the math is a bit different compared to the SAT. I’m pretty confident in my math and science abilities. Can someone tell me which exam they found more math/science-friendly and why? I’m trying to decide which one to focus on more.

Hey there! It's true that the ACT includes a Science section, but it actually tests your ability to interpret and analyze scientific data rather than your knowledge of specific scientific concepts. In some ways, it's more like a reading comprehension section than a purely science one, but if you're comfortable with charts, experiments, and hypotheses, it might still play to your strengths. On the other hand, while the SAT doesn't have a dedicated Science section, it does sometimes incorporate science questions into its Reading and Writing sections.

As for math, the ACT covers a broader range of topics, including some more advanced concepts like trigonometry and logarithms, and allows less time per question, which can be beneficial if you work quickly and confidently. The SAT, conversely, dives deeper into algebra and problem-solving, has a no-calculator section which tests your mental math chops, and provides more time per question, which can be a plus if you prefer to have extra time to consider your answers.

I suggest you take a practice test for each and compare your comfort level and scores to decide which suits you better. Your decision is entirely up to your personal preference, as schools don't weigh one test more than the other, and by trying both, you can play to your strengths and make an informed choice.

All the best with your prep!
