What's the most important thing you need to pack for college?

Hi everyone! I'm getting myself ready to head off to college next fall and the packing list seems endless. From your experience, what do you guys think is the most important thing to bring to college?

While packing for college can certainly be overwhelming due to the amount of stuff you essentially have to fit into a suitcase, there is one particular item that you absolutely must bring: a laptop.

Your laptop is going to be the central tool upon which much of your college life hinges - academic, social, recreational. Most of your coursework – be it research, completing assignments, or even examinations – will be computer-based in some form or another, especially considering the current trend towards digital learning environments.

Having personal access to a reliable laptop provides you with the ability to do coursework when it fits your schedule, rather than when computer labs or libraries are open. It may also be your main hub for staying connected with family and friends, managing extracurricular activities, finding campus resources, and of course, enjoying your downtime with entertainment.

Of course, this doesn't devalue the importance of other necessary items such as bedding, toiletries, school supplies, and so forth. However, these items can often be easily purchased or replaced if forgotten, but your laptop is a significant investment that directly impacts your academic success in college. Make sure to also bring tech accessories like a good pair of headphones, a portable charger, and all necessary power cords and adapters.
