Writing Programs in College

Hi everyone. I'm going into writing-heavy major and I'm curious about what program most colleges use for document writing. Is it still mostly Microsoft Word or is there something new?

Most colleges don't enforce a specific word processing software the students should use, so the choice often comes down to personal preference. However, Microsoft Word still seems to be the most commonly used program for document writing in colleges because it's widely compatible and features a plethora of writing and editing tools.

Recently, there's been a surge in popularity for Google Docs due to its cloud-based storage and the ability to collaborate in real-time with peers or professors. Google Docs is particularly handy for group projects or when you need to share your work for feedback.

Additionally, some students opt for note-taking or writing apps such as Notion, Evernote, or Scrivener, especially when working on larger projects, as these platforms help with organization and structure.

In the end, it mainly depends on your comfort with the program and its compatibility with the devices you're using. No matter the program you choose, always be certain that your final product can be exported or saved in commonly accepted formats like .docx or .pdf, as these are commonly preferred when submitting assignments.
