College and LGBTQ+ Student Representation

Hey y'all, I'm serious about supporting and being part of the LGBTQ+ community. So, totally wondering if anyone knows which colleges have the most gay students? Makes sense that it would be where I feel most accepted. Thanks for any info!

Hi there! It's fantastic that you're looking to continue being an active part of the LGBTQ+ community while in college. While it's important to remember that quantity does not necessarily equate to quality of representation or a supportive community, there are certainly some universities that are known for having a larger LGBTQ+ student population.

For instance, New York University stands out, with a thriving and active LGBTQ+ community. The active student organizations, LGBTQ+ resource center, and numerous events throughout the year contribute to a vibrant and inclusive campus culture.

The University of California, Los Angeles also has a stellar reputation for its LGBTQ+ population. The university offers substantial resources through the LGBTQ Campus Resource Center, and the wider city of Los Angeles is known for its large and lively LGBTQ+ culture.

Over on the east coast, Tufts University often ranks among the top accommodating universities. They've invested heavily in diversity and inclusivity programs and have on-campus housing dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community.

It would be beneficial to review campuses' non-discrimination policies, check out what resources they offer to LGBTQ+ students (including counseling, healthcare, support groups, clubs, etc.), and see if they have any LGBTQ+-focused studies or housing.

Also, keep in mind that it's not just the school but the surrounding community and city, too. A supportive and thriving local LGBTQ+ community can make a significant difference.

Best of luck on your college search! College is a great time to deeply engage with and support communities that are important to you.
