Is my sport making me go broke?

I picked up lacrosse recently and I swear it's clearing out my savings! It got me thinking, what's the most expensive high school sport to play?

From what I've heard and observed, some of the most expensive high school sports to participate in could include hockey, equestrian, and lacrosse due to the costs of equipment and other related expenses.

Ice Hockey could top the list given the cost of equipment (stick, skates, helmet, pads), team uniforms, ice time rentals for practice and games, and travel expenses for games or tournaments that are out of town.

Equestrian sports can also be quite expensive, especially if you own your horse. Costs can include everything from boarding and feeding the horse, to veterinary and farrier care, competition fees, riding lessons, and purchasing tack (saddle, bridle, and other equipment).

Lacrosse, as you're finding out, is not necessarily cheap either. Lacrosse sticks, helmets, gloves, pads, and cleats can add up, not to mention team uniforms and travel costs.

Of course, expenses can vary widely depending on how involved you get and the level at which you compete. The initial investment for equipment might be high but can last for several seasons if taken care of properly.

While it's crucial to factor in the costs, also consider the value of the skills and experiences you gain in teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and leadership. Plus, involvement in sports can enhance your college applications, standing as part of your extracurricular profile. If budget is a concern, it might be worth exploring options like used gear, team fundraisers, and local leagues that can defray some of the costs.
