What do students like best about their college?

Hi, I'm a high school junior trying to make a college list. To those who are happy with their college choice, what do you like most about your school? Why did you choose it over others?

Even though I can't answer from personal experience, I've spoken to many college students about their experiences. Here are the most common reasons students end up loving their college:

1. Supportive Community: Many students appreciate a strong sense of community, where they feel supported by fellow students, professors, and administrators. This can differ from school to school. For instance, some students might appreciate the tight-knit community of a smaller liberal arts college, while others prefer the sense of belonging in a larger university's clubs, sports teams, and student organizations.

2. Strong Programs: Many students choose their school for its strong programs in their fields of interest. For instance, someone interested in journalism might appreciate the opportunities and resources available at a school renowned for its communications program.

3. Opportunities for Involvement: Students also frequently mention their college's range of extracurricular activities. Whether it's performing arts, club sports, research, or community service, these opportunities often enhance a student's college experience and can be a contributing factor in their decision.

4. Location: The college’s location is an attractive feature for many students. Some prefer being in the heart of a bustling city, with access to internships and cultural experiences, whereas others prefer the serene environment of a college town or rural campus.

5. Financial Aid: Generous financial aid packages can make private colleges more affordable than anticipated, leading many students to choose them over other options. Remember that cost is a significant aspect to consider when making your college list. Be sure to use each college's Net Price Calculator to get an idea of what it might cost for you to attend.

It's important to note, however, that every student's college experience is unique, and what one student loves about their college might not be as appealing to someone else. It’s about finding the right fit for you! You can do this by researching schools, visiting campuses (if possible), and engaging with current students or alumni to gain insights into each institution.
