SAT Score Submission: When Do Colleges Generally Collect Them?

What's up guys? I'm planning to take my SATs soon and was wondering when do schools usually collect SAT scores from applicants. I want to ensure I take the test early enough so it gets to my selected schools on time. Appreciate your help!

Hello, it's great that you're looking ahead to ensure your SAT scores reach your selected schools in a timely manner. As a general rule of thumb, you should take the SAT for the first time the spring of your junior year. This allows enough time for you to retake the test in the fall of your senior year if you want to improve your score.

Once you take the SAT, it usually takes about 10 days for your test scores to come out. Then, once you send your scores to colleges, it generally takes 1-2 weeks to reach the schools. Some schools may have an earlier cutoff, especially if you're applying Early Decision or Early Action, so it's always a good idea to check the specific guidelines for each school on their admissions website.

Also, it's important to note that the College Board allows you to send four score reports for free if you specify the schools within nine days of your test date. If you miss that window, or if you want to send scores to more than four schools, there is a fee for each additional report.

Be aware that due to the volume of applications, colleges may take some time to process test scores, so it's always a good idea to send your scores as soon as possible. Always make sure you're leaving enough time for the scores to reach the schools and be processed by the admissions office by the application deadline.
