Which colleges have high incidences of student arrests?

I'm kinda worried about campus safety and illegal activities as I start drafting my college list. Could anyone point me to the colleges that have had a high number of student arrests? This definitely isn't a deal-breaker but it would help me get a better idea of the schools.

It's important to prioritize your safety when considering colleges, so your concern is completely valid. However, it's also crucial to remember that arrest numbers may not always tell the complete story about the campus safety, as they can be influenced by various factors, such as proximity to urban areas and the local law enforcement's approaches.

However, to answer your question, though it's challenging to provide a definitive list of colleges with high incidences of student arrests, annual Clery Act reports can be a reliable source. It's mandated that all colleges and universities that receive federal funding must disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.

For example, Penn State University's University Park campus reported high figures a few years ago. The drug and alcohol-related arrests particularly stood out. The University of California Santa Barbara also had high numbers in the past, though it's important to note that many arrests were related to local events not necessarily associated with the university itself.

Keep in mind though that colleges with high arrest rates aren’t necessarily dangerous. Sometimes, higher numbers can reflect a more active campus police force and stricter enforcement of rules. Remember that campus safety departments, post-incident support, and prevention initiatives can also play crucial roles in creating a secure environment.

Therefore, I strongly recommend researching beyond just the arrest numbers. Look into safety programs and amenities each campus offers too, such as night-time escort services or robust mental health support.
