States with Most NCAA Division 1 Colleges

Hi everyone, athletics is a big part of my campus experience preference, and I'm leaning towards D1 schools. I'm curious, can anybody tell me which state has the most D1 colleges? Much thanks in advance!

Sure, I'd be happy to help! The number of Division I colleges can vary slightly from year to year due to changes in school classifications or coferences, but as of now, the state with the most Division I colleges is California, with 24 D1 colleges.

Notable D1 colleges in California include Stanford University, which is known for its strong overall athletic program, University of Southern California, famous for its football and basketball programs, and the University of California schools, especially UCLA and Berkeley, which have storied histories in multiple sports.

Take note that while these schools are well-known for their athletics, they also have rigorous academic programs. If athletics is a major component of the college experience you're looking for, don't forget to balance that with your academic needs and career aspirations.

Remember also that the culture and overall feel of a campus can vary greatly between colleges, even those with D1 sports programs, so exploring campuses - either in person, if possible, or through virtual tours and events - can help you determine which schools feel like the right fit for you.
