College Application Timeline

Hi guys, junior here! I'm trying to figure out when's the best time to apply for colleges? When do you usually send in your applications?

The application timeline can vary depending on whether you're applying early decision, early action, or regular decision. Here's a general timeline:

- Spring and Summer before Senior Year: This is a good time to start researching colleges, visiting campuses (if possible), and drafting your application essays. Keep tabs on any schools' application requirements and deadlines. You can also use this time to prepare for any standardized tests if needed, although the importance of SAT and ACT scores in admission decisions has been lessening at many institutions.

- September/October of Senior Year: The applications for Early Decision (ED) and Early Action (EA) typically open at this time. EA/ED deadlines typically fall in early November, but they can vary by school, so it's essential to double-check each school's specific deadline. In October, the FAFSA also becomes available. Even if you're not sure you'll qualify for financial aid, it's worthwhile to fill it out.

- November/December of Senior Year: This is typically when ED and EA applications are due. If you're applying Regular Decision (RD), use this time to finalize your college list and continue working on your applications.

- January of Senior Year: This is frequently when RD applications are due although again, deadlines can vary by school. It's crucial to ensure you've submitted all necessary application components, including transcripts, test scores if necessary, letters of recommendation, and any supplemental essays by these deadlines.

- March/April of Senior Year: This is generally when colleges will begin to release decisions for RD applications. In April, you will likely need to make your final decision and commit to a college. May 1st is the typical deadline to confirm your enrollment at a college.

Remember to always double check specific deadlines on each college's website as they can sometimes vary!
