Physical Education Requirements in high schools

I'm not exactly a sports person and was wondering about typical high school requirements. Do most high schools only require one year of physical education? What happens if you don't meet the PE requirement in some high schools?

While the specifics can vary significantly, most high schools in the United States do have physical education (PE) requirements. The most common requirement appears to be one to two years, although some districts/states may require more. For example, California requires two years of PE for high school graduation, and Texas requires one.
