Which California colleges have the most merit scholarships to offer?

Hi all! Finances will be a major factor in my college decision, but I'm also working hard academically. Does anyone happen to know which colleges in California offer the most scholarships based on merit? I'd love to be rewarded for my educational efforts.

In California, there are several institutions that are known for their generous merit scholarships. USC (University of Southern California) is certainly one of them—it has several sizable scholarships that are based on academic merit. However, it's also worth mentioning that their admission process is highly competitive, so the scholarships are likewise competitive.

Another school to consider is Pepperdine University, which offers numerous scholarships dependent on various factors, with a considerable focus on academic achievement. They offer both the Regents' and Seaver College scholarships for academic high-achievers.

Occidental College also offers several merit-based awards, such as the President's and Trustee Scholarships, which are quite substantial.

Claremont McKenna is another to consider. They have the McKenna Achievement Award and the McKenna Scholar Award for students who exhibit excellent academic records.

Just a reminder: merit scholarships can be competitive, so you'll want to make sure you're also considering colleges where your academic profile is well above average. More broadly, it's a good strategy to apply to a handful of colleges at different selectivity levels to maximize financial aid opportunities; institutions, where you're in the top 25% of applicants, are more likely to offer enticing scholarships. Also, keep in mind that while these scholarships are a great way to reward your academic efforts, you should still run a Net Price Calculator for each school on your list to ensure that you can afford to attend, even if you don’t get a scholarship.

Finally, don't forget to seek out external scholarship opportunities as well. Good luck with your college search and scholarship hunt!
