Which college claims the most alumni as Presidents?

Are there universities that can list more than one former president among their alumni? What might make these colleges particularly successful at nurturing future leaders?

Harvard University holds the distinction of having the most U.S. presidents among its alumni. The esteemed institution has educated eight presidents including:

1. John Adams

2. John Quincy Adams

3. Rutherford B. Hayes (law school)

4. Theodore Roosevelt (and also attended Columbia Law School but dropped out)

5. Franklin D. Roosevelt

6. John F. Kennedy

7. George W. Bush (business school)

8. Barack Obama (law school)

Note that some of these presidents attended only the graduate or law schools, not the undergraduate college.

Harvard's success might be attributed to several factors. The renowned faculty, rigorous academics, and considerable resources could all be part of the equation. Additionally, Harvard's prestige attracts students who are high-achieving and motivated, which obviously is a good starting point for future leaders. It should be noted, however, that becoming President requires a confluence of factors far beyond just one's educational institution, including personality traits, political leanings, and the particular social and political context of their time.
