The study marathon - which majors hit the books the hardest?

So, a question for y'all: Which majors generally involve the most study hours? I'm keen to uncover the majors that are the most content-heavy and require the most dedicated study time. Thanks in advance!

While the amount of studying can differ greatly from individual to individual and from school to school, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) regularly collects data regarding the average hours college students put into their studies per week, based on their major. Statistically, the fields often reported as most demanding in terms of study time include

1. Architecture: Perhaps not immediately obvious to most people, but the significant amount of studio work and hands-on projects in architecture make it a highly time-intensive major.

2. Medical and health sciences: Any field leading to a career in healthcare, such as pre-med, nursing, or pharmacy, usually requires extensive studying due to the vast amount of information and the importance of accurate and thorough knowledge in these fields.

3. Engineering: Whether it's civil, mechanical, electrical, or any other discipline, engineering courses are often content-heavy with complex mathematical and scientific concepts, requiring a significant amount of studying.

4. Physics and Chemistry: The theoretical principles, conceptual understanding, and practical techniques in these majors demand a lot of time.

5. Law: Understanding legislation, court cases, and legal concepts generally requires a considerable amount of reading and studying.

Remember, these are broad observations and individual experiences can differ greatly. The time you'll spend studying will also depend on how closely aligned your major is with your existing knowledge base and how efficiently you can study!

But in every field, what sets students apart isn't the number of hours spent passively absorbing information, but the ability to actively engage with the material, connect it to what they already know, and apply it in new ways. Irrespective of your major, honing these skills will serve you well.
