High School Offering Plenty of Classes

Stressing a bit...my school doesn't offer a lot of classes unlike some bigger high schools. I'm curious, does anyone go to a school that has tons of classes? How does it affect your academics or college admissions?

Hey there, it's understandable to be concerned about how the number of classes your school offers might impact your college applications. Here's a bit of insight: colleges evaluate applicants within the context of the opportunities available to them. So, if your school doesn't offer a broad range of classes, you're not expected to have taken classes that were not available to you.

Many students in smaller or rural schools share similar circumstances. What colleges emphasize is the rigor of the courses available to you and how you've utilized those opportunities. They want to see that you've pushed yourself academically within the constraints of what your school provides. If your school offers only a few challenging classes and you've taken and done well in them, that reflects positively on you.

Regarding your academics, learning isn't limited to the classroom! There are resources like online courses, community college classes, or internships that can supplement your high school coursework and help you pursue your academic interests. By showing initiative and the drive to learn beyond what's provided, you demonstrate qualities colleges value highly.

For example, if your school doesn't offer a Computer Science course and that's your intended major, you could look for opportunities beyond school. You might start a coding club, take online programming courses, or create your own software project outside of school. Efforts like these show enthusiasm and dedication to your proposed field of study.

Remember, colleges are looking for students who make the most of what is available to them. So, arms yourself with the classes your high school offers, and seek out other learning opportunities if you feel the need to explore more. Do well in what's available and display your passion for learning, and you'll stand out in your applications.
