Consumer Behavior of College Students

For my Business & Marketing class project, I need to know the top products that matter to college students. Could anyone provide any insights into what products are most important to college students?

From a broad perspective, it seems that college students nowadays value products in a few main categories: technology, educational resources, food, physical fitness, and fashion.

1. Technology: Most college students have at least one high-tech device, such as a smartphone, laptop, or tablet. Portable chargers and wireless headphones also seem to be popular. For software, student discounts on subscriptions for music (like Spotify) and video streaming services (such as Netflix and Hulu) are quite popular. Many also find VPN services useful, especially for those studying far from home.

2. Educational Tools: E-books, online course platforms, and educational apps are becoming increasingly relevant. Additionally, note-taking apps, digital planners, and other productivity tools, such as Grammarly, are crucial for many students. Some students also frequently use travel booking platforms for studying abroad or planning trips back home.

3. Food: Online food delivery apps like Uber Eats, GrubHub or DoorDash are favored among college students given the convenience factor. Additionally, affordable, easy-to-make food items like instant noodles, mac and cheese, cereals are often purchased by students. Some might invest in a high-quality reusable water bottle or coffee thermos for their hot or cold beverages on the go.

4. Fitness: Many students are health conscious and may value fitness gear, including yoga mats, athletic shoes, and reusable water bottles. Nutrition supplements related to fitness and health might also be key.

5. Fashion: Students also seem to care a lot about casual yet fashionable clothing, giving preference to brands that offer student discounts. Ethical brands and thrift options are increasingly popular given the rise of environmental consciousness among this demographic.

Remember, these are only general categories and individual preferences may vary greatly. For your project, you might want to conduct surveys or interviews to get more precise insight into students' behaviors and preferences.
