Hello, everyone! I'm currently in my junior year, and am trying to figure out ways to make my college application stand out. I heard that some extracurricular activities are more intensive than others. So, which are the most intensive high school extracurricular activities? Any and all suggestions are welcome!
When thinking about high-intensity extracurricular activities, there are a few that come to my mind immediately. These activities are typically classified as Tier 1 and Tier 2 according to the 4 Tiers of Extracurriculars.
At the very top of the list are activities that lead to national or international recognition. These could include being a nationally ranked athlete, winning an international science or math Olympiad, or bagging a prestigious award like the Congressional Art Award. This tier of activities is rare and signifies exceptional achievement.
There's also the second tier of activities which, while more commonplace than the first, still involves significant achievement. It usually includes leadership roles such as being student body president or playing in a state orchestra. Being a top state-level athlete or leading a successful nonprofit initiative is also indicative of a highly involved student and would be a sound additions to any application.
Moreover, starting your venture, whether it's a non-profit, a business, or a major event can also demonstrate a high level of passion, commitment, and resourcefulness.
While these activities are highly demanding and certainly boost your college application, remember that admission officers will be keen on your narrative as they review your application. They will be looking at whether these activities align with your projected academic interests and future goals. So, quality is more important than quantity here. Make sure that your extracurriculars are meaningful to you and reflect your passions and development.
I hope this helps you as you continue to craft a remarkable college application. Best of luck!
