Using Common App for college transfer applications?

Just figured out that I might need to transfer schools next year for personal reasons. I heard that I need to use the Common App for transferring but I'm not sure if that's true? I've only used the Common App the first time around so this is new territory for me. Any advice on filling out the Common App for transfers?

Absolutely, you can definitely use the Common App for transfer applications. It's a convenient way for students, like yourself, to apply to multiple colleges at once, similar to when you applied as a high school senior.

However, keep in mind that while many schools accept the Common App, not every school does. I would encourage you to check the website of the colleges you're considering to confirm whether they use the Common App for transfer applications.

When filling out your transfer application, there are a few things you'll need to pay attention to:

1. Academics: When transferring, your college transcripts will be very important. You'll need to list all the colleges you’ve attended and include your grades from these institutions. This includes any dual-enrollment courses you might have taken in high school.

2. Personal Information: Just like the first time you used the Common App, you'll fill out personal information about yourself. The key difference this time is that you now have college level academics and experiences to include.

3. College Report: This must be completed by an official at your current or most recent college, and it verifies your academic and disciplinary standing.

4. Professor Recommendations: These should ideally be from professors at your current college who can speak to your academic abilities.

5. Common App Transfer Essay: This is your chance to explain why you want to transfer. It would be wise to address why your current institution isn't a great fit and what you hope to gain at your target institution.

Remember that each college may have unique requirements as well, such as a supplemental essay, so keep an eye out for those. Be sure to keep track of all the deadlines, as they can vary from college to college.

Hope this gives you a general idea of what the Common App for transfer applications entails and good luck with your application process!
