What are the top-ranked biology schools for undergraduates?

I'm a junior in high school and really interested in pursuing a degree in biology. I want to focus on cellular biology or genetics, but I'm open to other subfields as well. What are some of the best universities for an undergraduate degree in biology? I'd love to know where I might get a great education and good opportunities for research. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

When looking at top-ranked schools for biology, three stand out consistently according to national and international rankings.

1. Harvard University: Harvard offers a Biology degree with several subfield options, including Cellular Biology and Genetics. Its broad biology curriculum incorporates lab work from the first year, allowing you to gain hands-on experience from an early stage. There are also several opportunities for undergraduate research at Harvard's numerous biological research centers and laboratories.

2. Stanford University: Stanford's Biology program is known for its robust offerings in genetics and cellular biology. One unique aspect of Stanford is its Biology Honors Program, which provides undergraduates with an extended period of independent research and the opportunity to write a senior honors thesis.

3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): MIT's Biology program is strong in the areas you are interested in. Many undergraduate students at MIT participate in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), which allows you to work directly with faculty on original research projects.

These universities are all highly selective, but their biology programs are among the best in the world. You'd get a combination of premier classroom learning and lab experiences, so keep these in mind when considering where to apply.

Remember, however, to balance rankings with finding a college that's a good fit for you in other aspects, including size, location, culture, financial factors, and other academic opportunities. Top-ranked biology programs can be found at other universities as well.
